O'Dwyer Intubation Set

Dublin Core

Description

In 1884, after four years of experimentation, Joseph O'Dwyer devised a hard rubber tube and instruments for inserting it into the obstructed larynx for the treatment of diphtheria, a problematic disease often affecting children with recurring epidemics and a high mortality rate. Thousands of lives were saved. As seen in this O'Dwyer intubation set, different sizes of tubes were available for different size children and adults. They were used in the awake child.
